In this video I mix symbolism, legend, and mundane life to reveal their connections. Les Trois M refers to the three legendary Mary’s. Les Trois M also suggests Les Maries, La Mer, and Les Mains.

During my residency at Camargo Foundation, I videotaped places connected with the three women: Marseille, Cassis, Salon de Provence, Saint Maximin, Sainte Baume, and Saint Marie de la Mer. The video process transformed into a pilgrimage. Faced with many different versions of the same story, the truth no longer mattered.

A Walter Benjamin writes, stories are a precious product of a long chain of causes similar to one another. It takes time, a lot of time to create such a story. It is a carefully crafted thing. 

Nel video “Les Trois M” intreccio leggenda, simbologia e quotidianità rivelando come il mito sia presente nel nostro quotidiano. Il titolo “Les Trois M” si riferisce al simbolo M delle Marie ma allo stesso tempo suggerisce un ulteriore trittico —les Maries, la Mer, and les Mains.

Durante la residenza d’artista alla Fondazione Camargo seguendo le tracce di queste tre donne ho realizzato riprese in diversi luoghi: Marsiglia, Cassis, Salon de Provence, Saint Maximin, Sainte Baume, and Saint Marie de la Mer. Il processo per la realizzazione del video è stato in se stesso una sorta di pellegrinaggio, un cammino durante il quale incontrando diverse versioni della stessa storia la verità non ha più senso, il significato si perde nel vasto abisso di tempo che separa le specie e le civiltà.

E’ interessante vedere come le storie evolvono attraverso diverse interpretazioni, come esse siano “il prezioso prodotto di una lunga catena di cause fra di loro similari. C’è bisogno di tempo, di tanto tempo per creare una storia del genere. E’ un oggetto realizzato con cura artigianale” (Walter Benjamin).
